Dr. Isabelle Lausent-Herrera is a researcher at the National Scientific Research Center of France (CNRS). Currently she teaches a course on Asiatic immigration in Latin America at Latin America Institute of High Studies of (IHEAL). Dr. Lausent-Herrera obtained her doctorate of geography in the University of Paris VII, where she also graduated in Anthropology and Chinese language.
Dr. Lausent-Herrera began to work on Peru in 1975 and for 20 years she has been working on the Japanese and the Chinese communities in Peru and other Latin America countries (Cuba, Panama). Her first studies dealt with the transformations of Andean communities in the wake of the market integration process. Between 1982 and 1984 she was a researcher at the French Institute of Andean Studies (IFEA, which depends from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in Lima. During the 2001-2004 period, Dr. Lausent-Herrera was again detached by the CNRS to the IFEA in Lima-Peru with the purpose to carry a study on the new Chinese immigration to Peru, continue its research on the history of the Chinese community in Peru and to teach (in 2003) in the History department at the Catholic University of Peru. On these subjects she has published numerous articles (see attached list). Recently she has published a book on Chinese Societies and temples in Peru. She is currently preparing a book drawing up the history of the Chinese community in Peru from his arrival to the present.
