Chair of the New Settlers Research subcommittee (responsible for the drafting and monitoring of Quality and Quantity Standards of New Settlers Research ub social sciences).

Immigration and return migration; acculturation and settlement; Asian (especially Chinese) identity ; racism and race relations (pertaining to Asians); Asian relationship with Maori; migrant sense of wellbeing and acceptance; migrant youth and 1.5 generation.

Experienced research team leader in co-ordinating qualitative (in-depth interviews, focus groups) and quantitative (statistical) analysis, resulting in various academic publications.

Project Director of Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation Research Fund project ‘ Circulatory Transmigration: a new paradigm exploring Chinese mobility.’ 2007-2010.

Principal Investigator of Royal Society of New Zealand Marsden Fund project ‘Maori-Chinese Encounters: the Indigenous and the Immigrant’ 2004-2007.

Member of ‘Student Life Commission’ 2002 appointed by Vice Chancellor John Hood, University of Auckland.

Advisor to Chinese Conservation Education Trust (CCET) since start (2000), responsible for broad policy advice and development directions.
